Excited to Jury the 4th Annual Spotlight Member Exhibit at Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts!

Five photographs to tell a story or present a unified idea… One entry, One price

This Member exhibition provides that rare opportunity to show a collection or series of images to tell a story or present a unified idea. Whether you have a personal story, or a set of images with a unifying theme, this juried call is your chance to exhibit your project.  This Call provides an opportunity to share a small body of work, and is a great opportunity to launch a new body of work, without the expense of mounting a solo exhibition.  Entry includes the opportunity to have the work entered reviewed by the juror in a live (via Zoom) open group review session.

Editing and Sequencing Workshop at the Griffin Museum of photography May 2023

Please join more for an immersive dive in to editing and sequencing your photographic series.

Saturday May 6, Sunday May 7 and Saturday May 13 2023 (3 sessions)

Workshop Description:

Photographers are regularly faced with editing and sequencing their work whether for portfolio, exhibition, website, juried show submission, or grant proposal. In this workshop we will look at the art of evaluating photographs and arranging them in a meaningful way for presentation. Beginning with the work of other photographers, we will examine the question of what makes a strong photograph, both as a single image and within a group. Next we will turn our attention to your photographs, sharing, editing, and sequencing them as a group. Students
should arrive with a group of 15-35 printed photographs they would like workshopped.

Our Choice, Our Voice at Gallery Kayafas

I’m proud to be participating in this important event organized by Arlette Kayafas. This exhibit is a pop-up event comprised of protest posters tacked to the gallery walls. In response to the overturning of Roe, Arlette Kayafas wanted to bring our community together to make our voices heard and raise money for Planned Parenthood. The exhibit is up August 8-13, 2022. Image below is an in process picture of the cyanotype I made for the event.

Atelier at the Griffin Museum of Photography Fall 2022

I’m honored to be teaching the daytime section of the Atelier at the Griffin Museum of Photography beginning in September 2022! My fabulous colleague, Jennifer McClure, is teaching the online, evening section.

The Griffin writes, “The Griffin Museum is pleased to continue its legacy of fostering creative growth with the Photography Atelier, now in its 37th session.

We are excited to expand the program to meet the needs of the next generation of photographic artists into a 9-month intensive program offered once a year, and culminating in an exhibition at the Griffin Museum at the end of the class.

This portfolio and project building course will inspire students to take new approaches to their photography practice and help guide students in finding concepts and approaches they would like to develop into a longer-term project.  Supportive dialog between the instructor and student is the basis of honing the work.

The course includes all of the steps to bring a series of photographic work to readiness for a gallery exhibition. This includes writing for photography, sequencing work for presentation, printing and framing options.

Other topics: Marketing your work via social media and preparing for next steps such as portfolio reviews. Guest Lecturers will present special topics.

The classes will meet weekly from mid-September to mid-December, breaking for the holiday season in December. Starting in January, the class will meet bi-weekly through mid-May.

In 2016 artist Steven Duede created the online platform Aspect Initiative to showcase contemporary photography. This exhibit moves the works from the screen to the Museum walls, bringing the artists together in one space, and highlighting and celebrating recent work.
